Boris Becker tells Nick Kyrgios to ‘man up and deliver’ after Australian calls him ‘doughnut’

Nick Kyrgios and tennis legend Boris Becker engaged in an ugly war of words on Twitter on Tuesday over the actions of Alexander Zverev, who’s partying video went viral on social media.

Boris Becker lashed out at Nick Kyrgios for calling out Zverev, who had taken part in the ill-fated Adria Tour tournament in which multiple people tested positive for Covid-19.

Zverev tested negative but had promised that he would go into self-isolation for 14 days. Instead, Zverev was seen partying with friends at a crowded private club in Monte Carlo.

Kyrgios tore apart Zverev and called him selfish in a video he posted on Twitter. Becker in turn, slammed Kyrgios and called him a rat in his tweet which led to a full-on war of words between the two.

“Don’t like no #rats ! Anybody telling off fellow sportsman/woman is no friend of mine! Look yourself in the mirror and think your better than us..,” Becker tweeted.

“Rats? For holding someone accountable? Strange way to think of it champion, I’m just looking out for people. WHEN my family and families all over the world have respectfully done the right thing. And you have a goose waving his arms around, imma say something.

“For goodness sake Boris, I’m not competing or trying to throw anyone under the bus. It’s a global pandemic and if someone is as idiotic as Alex to do what he has done, I’ll call him out for it. Simple,” Kyrgios replied.

The Novak Djokovic-organised Adria Tour saw four players contracting the virus, including the world No. 1 star himself. Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki were the other three while Djokovic’s wife Jelena, coach Goran Ivanisevic and fitness trainer also contracted the virus. The final leg of the tournament had to be cancelled, as a result.

Kyrgios had previously criticised the organisers of the tournament and hit out at governing bodies for their plans to restart professional tennis during the pandemic.

“There is an unspoken understanding between athletes! Whatever happens on the court stays there including the lockers! Nobody will talk about it … #respect #sport #fellowship.

“I really would like to se @NickKyrgios fulfill his potential and win a grandslam! He would be an incredible role model for for the youth of the world addressing the issues of equality/race/heritage! Man up buddy and deliver!” Becker hit back at Kyrgios.

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and his brother organised the Adria Tour exhibition tennis event to raise money for charity which was intended to help in the fight against coronavirus.

But it turned out to be a disaster as players were seen interacting, embracing each other, playing basketball and partying like they did in pre-COVID-19 days.
